It is not unusual when the topic of a tummy tuck comes up that the conversation often turns to the tummy tuck post op. Everybody wants to know what’s going to happen after the tummy tuck has been completed. The post op time can be a very trying period filled with varying amounts of pain and discomfort.
The important thing to remember is that your doctor and caregivers will do what they can to alleviate the majority of the pain using the available methods that have been proven to be effective. Painkillers, bandages, compression garments and the like will be alternated and used depending on your particular situation.
It is my experience from talking to people that have gone through tummy tuck post op that the pain and discomfort is more than they expected. This is not to scare anyone from having the surgery but it is to fairly make them aware that there will be a period of time that they will suffer after the surgery has been completed.
It is generally accepted that the recovery period for a abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is measured in weeks not days. And the good news is it is not measured in months generally. That does not mean that after a few weeks you will not have any reminder of your surgery but what it does mean is that in most cases people have returned to their normal activity. Please understand that every case is different in every situation may call for more or less recovery in the tummy tuck post op time.
Just in way of disclaimer, I am not a medical doctor I am merely a layperson that has an interest in tummy tucks. As such please do not take this article as medical fact but seek out a trusted medical professional to get the latest and most accurate advice about tummy tuck post op.
